Jewelry is by far my favorite accessory, as you may know from my post entirely dedicated to earrings. And although earrings are probably my favorite jewelry item, I’m rather obsessed with this dainty choker. It’s so small, but makes such a statement - basically my favorite two qualities in an accessory. The earrings have a similar effect, even though they’re a bit bigger, because of their simplicity. Just the combination of these earrings and this choker managed to spice up an otherwise plain outfit. You may also notice that the earrings are silver and the necklace is gold - I’m a firm believer that silver and gold should be combined often. They just compliment each other so well! But I digress.
The continuation of the change in seasons has me thinking about the physical earth, and how beautiful it is. I’ve been reading Genesis to learn more about how God created our home, but was more struck about how God created us. Genesis 2:7 reads, “then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being. Genesis is read so many times it can be easy to skim, but isn’t this an amazing statement? It isn’t metaphorical - God physically breathed into our lungs with the breath of life. In my mind, this has two major implications.
The first is that the physical breath in our lungs, even today, is God’s. The wind in the trees - God’s breath; all the air that surrounds us is the breath of God. Perhaps this is a stretch, but I really believe it. Maybe it makes a bit more sense in light of the other implication - God’s breath brings life. He created us and the world physically, no big deal, but we were nothing until he breathed life into us. He is, in and of himself, life. Not simply that he encompasses life, or fully understands life, no. He is life. Isn’t that amazing? Frankly, it’s difficult to comprehend - almost impossible, really. I love it!
How blessed are we that we get to follow a God that is too big to fully understand. Many are burdened with following a weak or sub-par leader, but not us. We follow a God so powerful and lovely that he brings armies to their knees, a God whose name causes the earth itself to tremble. And not only do we get to follow him, we get to enter into an intimate relationship with him. He wants nothing more than to be our father, husband, king, and friend. Nothing in the world is more beautiful than this reality.
So, daughter of the king (to clarify, that makes all of us literal princesses), live life with the knowledge that the God of the Universe’s breath fills your very lungs.
