Christmas is truly one of my favorite times of year. I have been blessed with a very large family (the final tally is in the 50s), and many of us gather in Florida every year. There are lots of dinners, board games, and coffee gatherings, all of which add to the already festive and homey feel that Christmas always brings. Plus, the opportunity to wear glittering gold shirts and bright red skirts is one I would never pass up. The combination makes for an especially joyous couple of weeks!
However, this is not the reason Christmas is my favorite. Growing up it was, certainly, but as I have grown I have learned to appreciate the true reason that we celebrate Christmas. It is a time for reflection and excitement, all swirling around the focal point of Jesus. How amazing that he was born for the purpose of death, only that we might live! I am sure this has been shoved down many of our throats, as it was mine, but I have come to appreciate just how selfless and incredible it really was.
I like to imagine how the shepherds must have felt, like it was written in the bible in the book of Luke, when a host of angels suddenly appeared to them. I am sure I would have been either paralyzed with fear, or running for the hills so quickly nobody would have even known I had gone. But as the fear and confusion faded, imagine the hope and joy that everyone surely felt. Here, they must have thought, is the true and almighty God! How amazing is he that he joins us on Earth, even as Christians are persecuted and killed for their beliefs. Perhaps all this is very cliche, and my appreciation for Jesus' role in Christmas is only a couple of months old, but it has altered my whole perspective.
My appreciation for clothing has, of course, not suffered despite my newfound passions, and this lovely skirt was a fantastic find! I wear a size 4 and this is a size 12! But because it is a wrap skirt I managed to make it work. So, if you can find a wrap around skirt for cheap, even if it's not your size, you may be able to make it work! The bow and the shade of red were just so perfect, there was no way I wasn't going to wear it for something Christmas related. Don't be surprised if it makes other appearances; it's become a new favorite!
Hope you have a fantastic remainder of the Christmas season (which I manage to stretch until the 30th), and a blessed New Year!
