I’ve been in Florida since Monday, and it’s wonderful! Two weekends in a row spent traveling is truthfully my ideal. The weather has been wonderful, albeit toasty, and wonderful for swimming! Something about Florida is always making me want to wear red skirts, apparently, because the last time I was in Florida I wore a different wrap skirt!
My cousin goes to a school for the arts and my adventure happened to coincide with a red carpet fundraising event, so I went with my family. My generous Aunt had just given me this adorable Louis Vuitton clutch (for free! amazing) so I was given the perfect excuse to break it out. I've always been a huge fan of anything Vuitton, but have never had the funds to scoop that much into a bag. But for free, I'll happily invest!
Being able to wear a fancier outfit and seeing others wearing their nicest clothes reminded me of my favorite thing about fashion. I’m sure many of you had heard me touch on this before, but it just never gets old - fashion is amazing because it can be so individualized. What a beautiful form of creative expression that we have access to! In my mind, fashion is a form of creativity on par with painting, dancing, and playing music. It’s another tangible form of presenting something that you’ve made to the world. There are stark differences, though - primarily that fashion can’t always influence an emotional reaction in the same way that a beautiful piece of music or a gorgeous painting. But does that make it any less expressive? I think not!
The difference, I think, lies within oneself. While paintings, dances, and music are meant to spark emotional reactions in others, fashion is a manifestation of one’s own emotional preferences, combined with aesthetic preferences, and translated into the physical form. That’s the reason that everyone prefers different color schemes or different outfits, and the reason we feel confident in outfits that others would dislike, just as they feel confident in outfits we would dislike.
In short, fashion is meant to be individualized. It’s a form of personal expression that everyone has access to, and it’s never going to look the same twice! I just think that’s so fun.
